I am a wife and mother, daughter and sister, aunt and friend. I keep a few chickens in my back garden. I work from home as a copywriter. Life has not always been sweet, nor is it necessarily sweet even now. As a young girl I have been flashed at, I have been reduced to tears by sexual comments and remarks, I have been touched inappropriately by drunken men, I have had my body shape analysed and commented on by strangers. I have been told that I am both pretty and ugly, that I am both a whore and a prude, that I am both sexy and disgusting. I have had my intelligence questioned and been made to feel inferior based purely on my gender. This is the personal reason that I am a feminist.
As the mother of a daughter, I feel compelled to speak out against casual sexism and the sexual abuse of women and girls. Not just in this country but in every country where women are objectified, treated differently to men, or oppressed because of their gender. However this blog is not all about feminist rants, it's about everyday life and my opinions and observations on that. I am not making any political statements and sometimes I might get my facts wrong - although I will try hard not to. You might disagree with me and that's great - good in fact because if we all agreed then this world would be a boring place.
Aside from being a vocal feminist I do have other interests. I like Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes. I try to garden, with varying success. I bake things, I cook things, I listen to 6 Music and I read books. What more is there to say?
